Compass Overview PDF

Overview

JBlade Compass™ is an AdvancedTCA™ system manager. It monitors power, temperature, fan speed and ATCA Blade status allowing an ATCA Shelf Administrator to control resources within the shelf. The Compass Graphical User Interface provides convenient point and click access to ATCA Shelves and Blades. No command line is necessary enabling ATCA Shelf Administrators to quickly integrate Compass into their day to day activities.

Continuously updated graphs of power useage, temperatures and fan speed allows Shelf Administrators to quickly isolate problems. Once identified the Administrator can reboot or shutdown Blades and individual AdvancedMCs and bring other replacement Blades online.

Editions

JBlade Compass™ is available in four different editions. The simplest, Compass Bronze, is designed for Shelf Administrators with zero background in PICMG 3.0 or IPMI. The most complex, Compass Platinum, is designed for Blade and Shelf manufacturers with extensive detailed knowledge of the PICMG 3.0 specification.

Compass Editions
Edition PICMG 3.0 Knowledge Shelf Count User Count Changes to Shelf
Bronze Zero One One IP Address only
Silver Limited Mutli One IP Address only
Gold Advanced Multi Multi Extensive
Platinum Extensive Two One All

Independence

All Compass software is operating system independent. Download once and run on Microsoft Windows Vista ®, Linux ® or Mac OS ®.

Compass can manage ATCA hardware from any vendor. A single GUI provides a uniform user experience independent of Blade or Shelf vendor.

No additional HPI, SNMP or proprietary networks stacks are required. This simplifies and reduces the implemention cost

ATCA Hardware Support

Compass supports only PICMG 3.0 ECN 003 compliant shelves and Blades compliment with PICMG 3.0 ECN 002 and later. Note that Compass supports Blades which are one ECN revision older than shelves. Compass is heavily graphics dependent and JBlade must develop the graphic renders for both shelves and blades. If Compass does not support your hardware ask your hardware vendor to enroll in the JBlade Hardware Developer program.

Compass is updated with additional Blades at the beginning of each quarter: January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.

Beta Program

The Compass Beta program starts in early February. There are a limited number of participants in the Beta program and preference is given to hardware manufacturers. Check back in November to sign up for the Beta program.

The Beta test program for Compass Silver starts February 2, 2009 and is targeted to end April 1, 2009.
